THE BEGINNING OF THE 'PU'

I met Brian quite unexpectedly at a Waltermitty show at Club Dada one Saturday afternoon Summer of 1997. Actually, I met Stan (the taper) and he told me that Brian was looking to jam with some other musicians and I ought to go talk to him. Brian asked me who some of my influences were and I just so happened to unknowingly compile a list earlier that week of all of my musical influences. So I handed him the piece of paper that was in my wallet...and that answered all of the questions. Within a couple of weeks, we started jamming together with Kyle (the GIANT bass player) and a drummer at a Crackhouse motel/Rehearsal space complete with blue shag carpet. It was okay, but slow and kind of directionless. One day, Brian called me and told me about Terry's ad in The Observer: "PLANO DRUMMER SEEKS ADVANCED MUSICIANS FOR MAHAVISHNU / ZAPPA / KING CRIMSON TYPE RECREATIONAL MUSIC MAKING." It was a musical match made in heaven.

And thus, Magpu was born.
